Now in its 17th year, the Roxbury Madrigals provide a unique extracurricular opportunity to Roxbury Choir members. The Madrigal ensemble is an extra-curricular, select group which rehearses one hour a week after school. Auditions for Madrigals are held in the beginning of September. Students from any level of choir can audition for Madrigals, and are chosen based upon their musical audition (tone quality, intonation, musicianship, ability to hold parts independently, preparation) and attitude (ability to work with others, reliability, enthusiasm, dependability). Roxbury Madrigals members study a capella literature from early chorale repertoire, which is highly challenging. Consequently, this is a group of students that must have a serious attitude about working hard and must be ready to give extra time in their schedule. A member of Madrigals is responsible for being at all rehearsals. The Madrigals rehearse and perform in the first half of the year.
